Squeak E. Clean Studios’ home had been a classic Sydney Victorian terrace on Redfern since it was Nylon Studios. Now it has a new one. Still classic Sydney. Nothing is more Sydney than a Sydney Harbour waterfront. But far more glorious. If the aim was to create a space where people would want to hang out and create – and this was certainly executive creative director, Simon Lister’s, dream – mission accomplished. There are exposed timber beams, wood floors and million-dollar harbour views for exhilaration and ambience…and “some seriously upgraded sound quality capabilities” for exceptional creative work.

Cleverly, whether by serendipity or design, Squeak E. Clean is now also located within Sydney adland’s inner circle. Its neighbours are Publicis (including Saatchi & Saatchi), BMF, The Hallway, Leo Burnett, DDB and Sony, with WPP on the other side of the Darling Harbour inlet.

To celebrate its new world class digs, Squeak E. Clean had a housewarming, where The Stable got to explore both the physical spaces and the ideas behind them.

Here’s what we learned:

Why the move? What are the advantages of the new studio for Squeak E. Clean Sydney?

We had been in Redfern for over 20 years and it was definitely time for us to refresh our facility. We loved the beautiful old building and have so many fond and crazy memories, but as the space is very old, its health eventually had to come first. With that, we needed to move in order for the building to undergo its “surgery”. It was perfect timing for us, as we wanted a major overhaul to our facilities for ourselves, as it’s given us the opportunity to do something fresh with a gorgeous new space.

How did you get the new studio ready in record time? What are its features?

We had a timeline of only 5-6 weeks to build, which felt impossible, but we managed to do it without sacrificing quality and performance. We opened our new doors to the removalists and booked our studios with clients on the same day. We wanted to cultivate a location where creatives can work together and our clients can experience our culture of both music, sound and everything we love bringing to our industry. What we do is exciting, and having creatives and clients together in the same space brings magic to our projects.

What does the new studio mean to the international Squeak E. Clean Studios?

Globally, Squeak E. Clean Studios has a strong culture of artistry and a collaboration amongst our team We are a group of creatives and artists who all share a common goal of producing the best soundtracks for our clients, and we aim to provide premium service within spaces where our community will want to create work that defies our industry. Our vision is for our creative community to have a space to produce “awesome cool shit” together, and with Squeak E. Clean Studios Sydney’s new digs, we truly feel we have achieved this.
