Jihye\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0journey into filmmaking started with voiceovers for the Empire State Building and the Van Gogh exhibit in Amsterdam. She also worked as a production assistant while pursuing her lifelong dream of directing.<\/h2>\n

As a field producer for F1 Sports, she worked on global commercials. In 2016-17, Jihye produced Lady Gaga\u2019s \u201cDie Hard\u201d with Bud Light, her first live broadcast project. Her entry into auto marketing led to collaborations with Ford, FFA and Equinox.<\/p>\n

We spent two minutes with Jihye to learn more about her background, her creative inspirations and recent work she\u2019s admired.<\/p>\n

Jihye, tell us \u2026<\/h1>\n

Where you grew up, and where you live now.<\/h3>\n

Started on a farm in South Korea then grew up mostly in Queens, N.Y.\u00a0 I\u2019m still happily here.<\/p>\n

How you first realized you were creative.<\/h3>\n

My mom took me to a shoebox theater to watch a hand-puppet show when I was a kid. I was fascinated by the glimpses of \u201chidden\u201d leotarded performers whose hands were moving the puppets. I wanted to be on the inside, making something that entertained an audience.<\/p>\n

A moment from high school or college that changed your life.<\/h3>\n

The day I received three college rejection letters in one mail drop. Despite the disappointment and uncertainty, I felt grateful because I genuinely trusted that I\u2019d have a fantastic time no matter where I ended up. It turned out to be true. I try to remember that mindset whenever I feel redirected.<\/p>\n

Your most important creative inspirations, and some recent stuff you love.<\/h3>\n

Lately, I\u2019ve been binging on Korean webtoons (digital comic books). It\u2019s been fun to see how good scenes, dialogue and emotions are visualized and imagining what could fill the gap.<\/p>\n

One of your favorite creative projects you\u2019ve ever worked on.<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0\u201cWind It\u201d<\/a>\u00a0music video. There was no brief, so I got to interpret and visualize the song as I wanted to. And I worked with wonderful collaborators.<\/p>\n

A recent project you\u2019re proud of.<\/h3>\n

My website<\/a>\u2014revamped for the first time in six years.<\/p>\n

Someone else\u2019s work you admired lately.<\/h3>\n

Staying curious.<\/p>\n

Deluding myself that my personal projects must be \u201cperfect\u201d to be worthy.<\/p>\n

A mentor who helped you navigate the industry.<\/h3>\n

I don\u2019t have a mentor, but an incredible circus of collaborators and friends. I\u2019m fortunate that we can be brutally honest with each other about our problems and dreams as well as the mandatory vent sessions.<\/p>\n

What you\u2019d be doing if you weren\u2019t in advertising.<\/h3>\n

TV and movies. And bowling.<\/p>\n
