In The Wake of Kamala Harris’ Election, These Ads Encourage Diverse Women to Run for Office
PSAs from BBDO New York and She Should Run will target women active in their communities.
In the wake of Kamala Harris’ inauguration as Vice President, a new series of PSAs is encouraging women, particularly those who are active in their communities, to run for office.
The campaign, dubbed “Change is Her(e),” was created by BBDO New York for She Should Run, a non-partisan nonprofit that aims to provide an approachable starting place and network for women leaders considering a future run for office. It includes a series of films, directed by Molly Schiot of Honor Society, featuring real-life activists who have all made a difference in their communities.
Targeting women of all races and socio-economic statuses, the effort aims to improve the diversity of candidates; according to SheShouldRun, a large part of the reason that more women currently don’t run is because they don’t believe themselves qualified. As well as the PSAs the campaign will also include a social media effort involving influencers to get people to nominate the female change-makers around them.
“With this new campaign, we want to inspire more women to consider running for public office by highlighting the many things they have already done to change other people’s lives,” said Erin Loos Cutraro, CEO and Founder of SheShouldRun, in a statement. “We believe that these women— who care deeply about people and society— have what it takes to hold office. If they care enough to change someone’s life, they could be one run away from changing many others.”
